@Jaidy PCIe 5.... Looking at the random write/read speeds its probably not worth it atm. Cache problems aside the tech looks great in theory. But we wait and see. As to the T700 not being stable under MacOS seems strange. Did you try Disk Utility in macOS Recovery to format the volume?

Yes I did. It won’t format. I had gotten the same drive a while ago under Monterey and it was the same problem then too. Though the drive works perfectly in Linux (also did previously), so it’s a macOS or hackintosh thing it seems. Other people have reported the same..

  2. Does anyone use a PCIe 5 SSD here? I am trying to get macOS installed on a T700 but it is not stable. Even formatting a new drive to APFS using disk utility leads to system restarting. I boot from the USB and format using terminal, not even disk utility from it either. I’ve updated NVMEFix (and all other kexts too), but to no avail..

    @Driftwood,

I noticed this limitation a while ago - on the Gigabyte BIOS-es this causes D4 PCI resource allocation error and refuses to boot. I never researched the exact topology/PCI lanes, but the TRX40 chipset is definitely not as good as the Intel Xeon ones for many PCI devices. On this topic, as of now, WRX80 is available, which should have 7 x16 PCI slots, but unfortunately requires you to also swap your Threadripper for a Threadripper Pro.

Was this problem ever solved? I just populated all of the m.2 ports on my machine, and occasionally it won’t boot, or boot to black screen, or restart midway. Though once it gets to desktop, things are solid.

    also I added a second GPU (7900XTX)..

@Jaidy At startup no. At the end of loading the OSX and the session page yes.

    Add in boot-args: agdpmod=pikera

You have a 6xxx card this should solve the problem.

I already have had this argument in the boot-args. But there have been times at random when the OS shall boot all the way to a black screen. I read up online that removing all debug arguments should solve this issue. I followed it, and it seems the issue has been resolved, but who knows might resurface. Thanks anyways

thank you. It seems enabling the nvme fix kext did the trick. I had it in the kext folder, but in the config.plist it was not enabled for some reason 🙂

the problem actually returned (so it never went away in the first place) 😞

Previously I had the macOS installed on the SK Hynix's P41. So I took out all the drives, and just let the P41 stay, and did a fresh installation of macOS. Still the same problem. So I doubt it's the other drives. Please help me!

I don't think it is the problem, but I do not know if it is useful for you changing GPU framebuffer

have you added some new hardware in your rig? or software as paragon NTFS or similar?

I have just added SSDs, now filling up all the M.2 slots on the motherboard.

I just removed the said section from the config.plist. It's still the same, the system while booting restarts midway several times, and I have once booted to black screen..

@Jaidyit seems only one kext you have is outdated (blutoothfixup)

i would try to update it and if system have the same problem after this i would try to disable ethernet kext as AppleIGB (and verify if this kext is good for your ethernet card)

    also i see this

    image.thumb.png.d26783c73d527b6a343f62a42a11ff11.png

does your GPU need of this DP?

thanks. I updated the bluetoolfixup kext, and disabled the AppleIGB (I don't use the wired ethernet anyway). The system restarted once midway during boot..

I am not sure about device properties for the GPU. Should I remove these and see if the system becomes more stable?

    hello everyone,

recently, my system got unstable in the sense that many a times when rebooting, it would randomly reboot midway, or boot to a black screen. Many restarts are required to get to desktop. It is almost like a matter of chance that the system shall boot to a normal working state. Kindly someone help me with it. I am on 13.5

I had to change 1 patch. It is an updated one which works with both Ventura and Sonoma. (see attached)

Also, don't forget to update the MaxKernal section of the patches to 23.99.99 where appropriate.

Additionally I needed to added -lilubeta to the boot args.

    Hope that helps.

    Sonoma.plist.zip 3.49 kB · 3 downloads

which patches require setting MaxKernel to 23.99.99 other than the probeBustGated Disable 10 bit tags by CaseSJ?

@fabiosun @Jaidy It is now installed and working.😀 The updated patch by CaseySJ (re 10 bit tags) fixed the problem and the patch works for both Ventura and Sonoma.

It seems to be working OK, apart from WiFI and Bluetooth. Hopefully updated WiFi and Bluetooth kexts will be available in the next few weeks. It is installed on a separate NVMe drive so I can dual boot macOS. I haven't installed many Apps yet so can't report on their compatibility.

Are there patches specifically for Sonoma?

I have tried to update my system to 13.3.1 from 13.3. I am downloading the "small" update 584.7MB, and it is not reverting to the "big" update, which then leads to finishing update. Can you please tell me how did you update it? I thought I patched the RestrictedEvents kext to fix it, but clearly I have not.

never mind, it worked after a few restarts
