@backinblackx86change that drive with one more compatible (PCIE gen 4) if you like to use it in OSX system

For now unsolved problem for T700 and generally also for other PCIE 5 Gen NVME

The GE Pro leads to random restarts too, only less often as the T700. I suggest staying away from PCIe 5 drives too, for now.

Format entire disk to exfat guid and then only format the exfat container to apfs

And try to set setapfstrimout from -1 to 0

You can find it at kernel /quirks

That’s how I managed to format my own T700. Beware though, T700 caused a lotta panics and random restarts. It is some driver issues with macOS since it’s solid in Linux. I advise caution using it with macOS

I allow myself to joke with you Jaidy 🙂
    what are you doing with your trx40 that doesn't have a slot/M2 pcie5.0? 🙂

I’m waiting for a wrx90 motherboard to become available to get it. Otherwise, yes you have a valid point 🙂

  4. just got my GE Pro ssd and installed Sonoma on it. The firmware probably doesn't support TRIM just yet, but otherwise this is the first PCIe gen 5 SSD to be this solid. No issues so far which I saw with the Phison controller based ones from Crucial and TeamGroup

@Jaidytake look to this latest revision for both (Opencore and Clover)

As mainteiner of the Clover ones, we deleted a patch which is possible also to delete in OpenCore:

    algrey | _cpuid_set_generic_info | Replace rdmsr(0x8B) with constant 186 | 10.13+

    other patches are the same

Clover needs to use two patches in another config.plist's section

Okay, before I spend any money today on an NVmE, I am going to pull the WD (Sandisk) 850x 1TB from my AM4 build. It currently has Sonoma, Ventura, and Monterey installed. Oddly the AM4 system cannot boot Monterey but Sonoma and Ventura are functional. Of course I will use the EFI we have built for the Trx50.

Also, I have removed the 6 5.25 DVD RW drives from the case to improve airflow to the CPU cooler.

You might wanna wait for this disk coming out shortly. It might have better random IO than 990 pro...

Will it work as a scratch disk or is it best to avoid all MacOS use and only use it for Windows/Linux? I may install an WD 850X (Sandisk)

The strange thing is if it is being formatted as some other file system and I try formatting it to APFS, the system will hang and then reboot. If I boot from USB and try formatting it from the recovery / install macOS, the same thing happens.

so I boot into Linux, format it to something like exFAT or EXT4, and then format it to APFS from macOS. After all this exercise, while it is in APFS, and I can write data to it and read from it, I’m very hesitant to do anything with it in macOS, so I haven’t really tried working with it.

I have a Z540 which while has its own small issues like restarting immediately after a reboot to desktop, but once I get to desktop, it is solid. I have it as my OS drive, so it seems there’s some firmware issue with the T700..

this is the unit I am using, but I believe the air flow is limited in my case as well.

If money isn’t a problem, then stick to the one you got for now. Enermax is coming out with its water cooler in Q2 of this year, so a few months from now, the XTR, and it seems quite capable to handle the TRs.

    I think so

but I think price will be monster

and I would like to have a platform with the change to upgrade also the cpu without changing the motherboard

    trx40 missed that part

    we will see

the future seems more interesting than recent past🥹

TRX40 owners did get shortchanged. The WRX80 at least got 5000 series threadripper pros..
