Your reminder to update the MaxKernel is a good one, as this step is often over-looked when updating to a new macOS. However, under Monterey, the problem isn't with Aquantia ethernet ports, but with I210 and I211 ports. These ports seem to be no longer properly responding to the kexts which were working under Big Sur. I've literally spent a dozen hours or more working on the I211 problem (discussed here and here), and so far have had no success.
