After almost a whole year stuck on Proxmox BS 11.0, I've finally made the switch over to Bare Metal, since I got tired of not having access to Bluetooth/USB ports.

Going in, I probably spent more time researching, planning, backing up (in case of total failure since I've been using it for work), than the actual installation process actually took. (Probably 20 tabs from various pages in this thread)

Currently in the process of restoring the data from my old BS install, otherwise I'd share screen shots (will follow up with edits).

- Used Pavo's OSX Generator to create the base config

- Installed on fresh SSD

- Upgraded Asrock Motherboard BIOS to 1.7.0

- Used Driftwood's BIOS settings, though I had to enable Above 4G encoding - caused install to hang a few times because I forgot about this

- Patched MMIO using Driftwood's config

- Added additional kexts: IntelBluetoothFirmware, IntelBlueoothInjector, itlwm, NVMeFix (was getting errors during boot, so had to add this).

- No DevProps, No ACPI

- Moved PCIe devices

-- PCIe 0: Vega Frontier

-- PCIe 1: Broadcom Network Card (originally wasn't working)

Shockingly, everything works so far. Bluetooth, WiFi, USB devices. Bluetooth and WiFi are being picked up by the Broadcom card (I think). So I may end up disabling/removing IntelBluetooth related stuff.

Thanks everyone for all your hard work, contributions, and dedication - it's incredible to see how much progress things have come since a year ago, and how 'it just sorta works' it's become now.

EDIT to include screen shots:

-- Further updated Plist with MMIO / Patches / DSDTs from Rox67er as well as BIOS

-- Added back in DevProps for GPU

-- Added RyzenCPUPower, SMCAMDProcessor, and AH_USB-Map found in Rox67er's Kexts.

--> This update fixed Audio ports which weren't working properly prior, couldn't detect microphone in front case panel

1st is the latest, 2nd was the original Bare Metal, 3rd is Proxintosh

Oddly enough, Single Thread performance is down, whereas MT is up on the CPU side.

On the Compute side, Metal is way down. (1st 3 results are the latest Bare Metal)

Though honestly, the fact that I can use all the USB ports and BT is worth the trade off.

EDIT: Figured it out. It was being caused by having my Intel NVME drive that wasn't APFS formatted (Proxmox files) trying to be loaded - which I finally guessed from "@filesystems.msdosfs" being the last started kext to load. I removed the NVME drive from the motherboard and it works normally now.

One issue I'm running into that I'm not able to figure out and isolate that wasn't present in Proxintosh, is this one Kernel Panic when trying to launch Blizzard Games (Heroes, SC2). I've tried dozens of different things, but haven't been able to figure it out.

The behavior is whenever the game is launched, it loads for a bit, then completely bricks (requiring hard restart/shut down).

I've found nothing on Blizz forums, and have also tried with my other installs (Catalina) and the issue is the same, so I'm not thinking it's the OS.

Anyone else run into something like this?

I've found nothing on Blizz forums, and have also tried with my other installs (Catalina) and the issue is the same, so I'm not thinking it's the OS.

Anyone else run into something like this?

I haven't seen exactly this issue, but did have freezing with some GPUs and WEG. You might try the following (keep a backup of your current config.plist file):

1. Comment out both DeviceProperties/Add (use "#" in front of each entry).

2. Delete the entire "Memory" item under PlatformInfo (it's not needed).

3. Add "-wegbeta" to boot-args section (I only use: keepsyms=1 -wegbeta)

4. Comment out your Kexts/Add section to save it and use the one I edited from your config file. I don't declare any USB port kexts; it really isn't needed for the TRX40 mobo, and I disabled the AMDRyzen kexts which may be interfering, and removed some extra BT kexts.

Spoiler

Hope this helps.

@valmeida,

You've listed an "AMD Series VII"; I'm assuming this means a Radeon VII, same as I'm using. The 5700 and VIIs have had issues with WEG, even on the Intel side of things. Such problems led me to add a boot argument: "-wegbeta". Try adding this to your "boot-args" section to see if this stops the freezes.

Another test is simply to disable WEG and see if this stops the freezes.

I'd take the 3080 out of the system until you get macOS installed and running. You can add it back later and disable it either with an SSDT to disable the slot it is in or in the config with the new whatevergreen.kext which enables disabling a GPU.

How do I disable a slot? (in the easiest way possible) IN am not sure how to configure the whatevergreen kext for doing that, but that seems the easiest way.

Have a look HERE (if I'm allowed to point to another forum). You could try one of those as is. You may need to modify it slightly as they are for another MB but hopefully it may work without any change.

Thank you for the tip, what is left to be seen is whether the SSDT simply disables the slot 1 or whether it is AMD 6800 specific.  Moreover, is there a reference on how one creates / modifies SSDTs?

I did, the system stopped booting with 9a error code, had to disassemble everything and reinstall F1, I could not even go straight to 4L. all this just to find out the 4p bios has been removed from the gigabyte website now!!!

@Ploddles Have you had a chance to try the F4q BIOS?

Still using F4p. F4q will probably need the MIMOWhitelist to be updated. I still don't have a replacement for my RX580 and the RX6900XT is unbootable for me at the moment. I could install an older version of BS, or Catalina, but can't be bothered for the time being. If support doesn't come in the next beta (11.4 beta 1) then I'll bite the bullet and install BS 11.2 and stay with that for a while. I'm just using Windowz at the moment with the 6900.

@fabiosun My latest OC 0.6.8 EFI, which is set up for F4p MIMOWhitelist, can be downloaded from HERE.

Big Sur 11.3 has finally gone to Release Candidate state. Let's hope this is the final one for .3 and we go to 11.4 beta 1 in the next few days. If there is no support for the 6000 series cards at that stage then I doubt we will ever see it in Big Sur.

I would trade mine for a 5700xt and some cash

I’ve put my 6900 to good use whilst I wait. Since Xmas it has earned me about £450 mining so it is over 1/2 way paid for itself.

I’d rather have it working in macOS but it is fine in Windows and isn’t just sat there doing nothing but being a paperweight.

@Jaidywait from first two beta 11.4.x

then you could trade your GPU 🙂

That is exactly the plan, though I was thinking waiting till 11.4.3

I sold the Redon 7 I pull out the Vega 64. It seems to only happen when the monitors fo into sleep mode . I will test it today to confirm ,
