  1. Hi

Help would needed, as I leave my computer for around 20 minutes alone, after that the whole system is unresponsive, extremely slows down, opening one folder in finder takes up to 2-3 minutes.

At energy saver all off, sleep not enabled (do not goes to sleep, just the screensaver starts). even force quit window pops up so late

Bios at default, only the necessary changes were done

Updated open core, kexts also, mmio done

    Any ideas? config plist attached

    thank you

  2. Hi

Would you take a look if I have done something here with my efi.

    MMIO mapped well.

Issues: With audio programs, like pro tools and audiogridder having a bunch of timeout problems, with the spinning beachball at the end, many cases pro tools doesn't respond on time and freezes.

This same kind of softwares on a real Mac work properly, no without any issues. Same versions same operating systems.

Deleted the maybe badly working ethernet kexts, now using an external usbC hub.

Computer cannot shutdown, this is maybe an usb mapping issue but could not solved following this thread:

    https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Post-Install/usb/misc/shutdown.html

(I could not find any _prw in my dsdt).

Last time I wrote I had booting issues, had to boot 3-4-5 time to have success. Once I unplugged my UA Apollo 16 thunderbolt interface, and this solved my problem. Now swapped to an usbC interface.

I had the flashed gigabyte card with the proper ssdt, IOreg was looking good, but this is not important now.

With the previous Catalina system I had a much stable system, but I had to upgrade because of the 6600xt videocard

    thank you

this problem started with Monterey for you?

if so try to disconnect ethernet cable .. maybe you have the same problem many users have with ethernet card

I see also bombic.ccc writing in your panic (it should be something you use with Carbon Copy Cloner)

    maybe an old version?

    Hi

It started few weeks ago, while I used Catalina mainly and Monterey was beta testing for me, because a bunch of audio applications were not working properly.

Monterey partition started to have this, then the Catalina startup drive (different nvme with different efi because of the kernel patches) made also.

Since then it became worse, I thing I had 12.2 at that time maybe. Until this, I had proper and fast boots)

I swapped only the video card in this times from rx580 to 6600xt

Tried unplugging the ethernet, doesn't helped.

The CCC, this drive was carbon copied 3 days ago with it, from a smaller nvme

Now using only Monterey, system seems fine for audio, deleted the Catalina (have a carbon copy on an external drive for safety)

btw both of my ethernet cards seems working properly

  4. Hi

Since a while I have booting issues . Every day at first time boot freezes almost in he same point, have to make 3-4 restarts, sometimes reboots by itself, but mainly have to hard reset it,  and then the system starts normally.

Tried to downgrade oc 0.8 to 0.7.9, but I have no more ideas.

During the day if I have to restart boots well, but today I had a 5-6 times reload issue also.

    Hardware wise nothing changed.

Most of the time boot freezes at cpu point

Sometimes at thunderbolt (gigabyte card flashed)

And sometimes the system starts with black screen, but agdpmod pikera is setted up for the 6600xt

    any ideas?

    thank you

Your config seems to be well done except for the last two kernel patches you use (Algrey and Shaneee fix pat patches... ) (also some quirk like increasePCIsizebar should not be useful(and if this is an updated OpenCore bootstrap folder is obsolete)

All users with our platform don't need it

    do you need of it?

I see you also use a DSDT..

    where does it come from?

You are the first TRX40 user I see having a DSDT in ACPI

For problems you have post a debug log to see or if you can check that your MMIO list is updated correctly

when uploading the EFI you exclude the apple folder which is not needed

    Thank you

    Hi, thank you

Updated my efi with OCAT, and that cleaned out my mistakes

    EFI monterey 1.1.zip

The DSDT was made by Mald0n from olaria, he cleaned up well my previous x399 Asus but, though this will clean things also. Contained cosmetical thing at system info

increasePCIsizebar... I can't remember, maybe I was playing with it when I had trouble with my firewire card

Nowadays I cannot get and speedstep working, stalls at 3.7Ghz. Before at monterey if I used iMac 18.2 or lower SMBIOS it was working well.

    All kexts are updated.

Now all my drives appear at monterey, some SMBIOS opens my built in usbC port

But since I updated to OC7.7 at the picker I cannot see my Catalina drive, only from that own working  efi, what version I cannot check, I don't have any answers from terminal (nvram 4D1FDA02-38C7-4A6A-9CC6-4BCCA8B30102:opencore-version), maybe I have the OC7.5 there. Should I remove the bootstrap.efi? (realized it has no connection, because that is on the efi partition not on the nvme)

  6. Monterey install issues:

First of all, I have a properly working Catalina system with this setup (99 percent, the only issue if I shut down the system the computer restarts itself 80 percent of the cases, sometimes shuts down)

So I continued my workin efi from Catalina to modify to Monterey.

First issue, it was not clean for me to use the new and patches next to the old ones, or I should only use the new ones. I found 2-3 identical patches, so the logical was to only use the new ones. And also this was working.

I always stuck during installation with the ssd update process, could not trick it even with different smbioses. So installed the first step trough Catalina to the new SSD and I could boot into this partition, and monterey started.

Issues: I use OC 7.7. If I boot with the monterey efi I cannot see my Catalina ssd, only the new nvme. In monterey I cannot see any internal or usb drives, only the boot partition.

In system info/SATA I see my drives, but not in finder or in disk utility (pic attached)

My boot time is extremely long 6-8 minutes. As I booted with the -v flag, I saw it spends a lot of time with usb things 240sec timeouts 2 times followed. In this point if I removed usb units I saw the system reactions.

2.5G ethernet is working fine, with wifi I can connect, bluetooth maybe not working, but HDD issue is more important first to solve.

I would like to update to monterey to swap my video card to a 6800Xt -windows gaming reasons-(6700xt would be better and cheaper, but there are no drivers for that).

The best would be make working the rdna2 under Catalina, but I know.......

I use it for audio works. I have UAD what is used with firewire in Catalina, but the UAD thrower the firewire support in bigsur.... connection B would be thunderbolt, but this board is not capable for that.

BUT now I got a gigabyte alpine ridge card, and at the first boot I saw my connected THB drive to it under catalina, rebooted and it is gone. It is not working under windows, but for one startup it was working, really strange.First have to boot to win, soft restart and then catalina, I can see my thunderbolt harddrive, but doesn’t work with the UAD soundcard.

Monterey: I use SMBIOS iMacpro1.1. Catalina works super, here monterey my CPU speedstep is not working cpu goes and stucks only 3.7Ghz. If I change to iMac19.3 or earlier, speedstep is fine goes from 2.8-4.3Ghz.

Connected to this case: strange, if I boot to Catalina from external usb efi drive, speedstep never works, only if I boot from the nvme. And also not working if I restart from windows, have to shut down the computer totally.

Unsupported kexts: I tried to load the UAD firewire kext in the boot efi/kexts, but had no luck. It is not that easy to change values in the kext plist, and the system will allow to lad the old kexts? Maybe I m too naive in this era , because would be nice to keep using the firewire

NVRAM: with this motherboard I could not have native nvram, had to use the fake file method, I don't know if I was doing something wrong

    Whole EFI partition is attached.

    thankyou

These are the Catalina drivers that Hackintools (see PCIe) will show what is running for firewire. Please check yours.

It did not wanted to mess up the forum with my problem too many times

Firewire is natively loaded with macOS (at least through Big Sur); there are no extra kexts to load and there is no impact by usual SMBIOS that we use (I'd recommend iMacPro1,1 as any SMBIOS with an internal GPU is not a good idea with the TRX40 build). I've used Firewire AIC on each of my builds without issue (Intel X99, Z390, X299 and AMD X570, TRX40 with macOS ranging from Mtn Lion to Big Sur). In other words, Firewire just works with macOS.

Further, the OC boot loader has little influence aside from injecting properties via an SSDT or DevProp (well, if you want to boot from a Firewire device, then you must re-calculate the ScanPolicy; but you shouldn't try this until the Firewire port is actually working). Further, an inoperable Firewire device will have nothing to do with AMD or patches. As long as you're booting into macOS, your patches are fine.

I think your problem is related to the type of device you're trying to connect to the Firewire port. And what exactly is/are the Firewire device(s) that you're trying to connect? (Testing with a Firewire hard drive is the most certain method to verify the Firewire connection.)

To clarify so that I understand you, when you boot into Windows, you can connect a Firewire device and use it? If the Windows response is 'yes, I can connect a device to the Firewire port and it works', then it should work in macOS, but with some caveats.

Again, I would suggest connecting an external Firewire hard drive to test. However, If you don't have a hard drive and you're using an audio device, it will require a software driver, supplied by the manufacturer of the audio device, to interface between macOS and the Firewire audio device. If the software driver is not present or not working, then this device will not work under macOS (despite working under Windows because the proper Windows driver was installed). This is why I'd trouble shoot with an external Firewire hard drive, not a complicated audio device. If you insist on testing with an audio device, and you're certain that the driver was installed and the Firewire device won't connect, then it must be a problem with that macOS and the manufacturer's driver. At that point, you'd need to contact the manufacturer of the audio device. If the driver cannot work with Catalina or later, you might have to revert to Mojave or an earlier macOS for compatibility.

    Thank you

You was right, I was missing the testing with a hard drive.

I did it now, the drive was popped up for me in windows with macdrive, but not in osx.

And yes, in windows everything is fine.

I checked the UAD Apollo 16 interface with my laptop with catalina, and works well trough a TB3-Firewire adaptor (i have only thunderbolts in my MBP 14,3), and the latest driver was not needed for catalina compatibility, and with the trx40 I tried the same and the latest also (i can see at boot, that the UAD kext is loaded at the last step in verbose mode)

and my MBP was the testing hard drive, started in target mode and was working trough adapters in windows. (my old external firewire hd power adaptor is dead)

I also used firewire in the last 8 years without any problems in the hacks z370 and earlier too, thats why this issue is strange for me, should work easily

Thats your problem. You need to get a sata to 4 pin cable from Startech or other suppliers.

    Hi

Got the power cables, didn't help

Ordered the same card as yours, same results

If I didn't wrote, all cards, all ports are working fine all slots under windows, so bios wise and phisically they are okay

ioreg shows, that kext is loaded, but....

tried different smbioses also, installed a new virgin catalina, high sierra also, to an external drive, removed all the kexts, removed everything to basic default at opencore config

at other forum they wrote that this is an amd problem, but not, because it is working for you

nowdays this is our only option with OC isnt it?

    https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Install-Guide/AMD/zen.html

tried to force load iofirewire.kext at efi, original and olders also (read somewhere for someone the older mavericks kext solved the problem)

my config is attached, if I made a big donkey mistake there....

    thank you 🙂

@fojerhar  Your card looks remarkably like mine! Here's what my FW card shows:

    1973947186_ScreenShot2020-09-28at23_35_31.png.e473ad30414365598d259e2e0413dfbf.png1860711760_ScreenShot2020-09-28at23_35_05.png.df4fc6f909cbcb90ffb8c0fc3945693e.png

My card is a cheap Startech (15 years old now) Firewire 1394b LP version which has always worked in all my hacks (ie its not the bridged cherry version)  See https://www.startech.com/uk/Cards-Adapters/FireWire/3-Port-2b-1a-Low-Profile-1394-PCI-Express-FireWire-Card-Adapter~PEX1394B3LP.

    fw0.jpg

    fw1.jpg

    fw2.jpg

Does yours need a power connector like mine? If so, ensure its powered/ attached.

Also contrary to popular belief, the more channels available on a MADI card or firewire audio  interface won't necessarily give you any more AU/VST software plugin power! Only onboard fx/plugins for the device.

    🙂

Thank you for the proper demonstration

I will wait for my ordered Startech card, if it will work

Yesterday tried the neighbours TI chipset card, also not working

Have to say, that both cards are working under windows, and his older hacks with high Sierra x299 chipset (I think, older i7)

External power never was connected (I also don't have any kind of cable for that.... 🙂 )

I use an UAD Apollo 16 sound card https://reverb.com/p/universal-audio-apollo-16-quad-silver, and it has its own DSP and the own plugins are running there

Do you think, that can this firewire issue be connected with Above 4G decoding?

Because CSM sport have to be enable for my Gigabyte Aourus rx580 8Gb card (stange issue), and by this I cannot enable above 4G decoding in this board. The previous Designare allowed this combo for me.

Funny: Why do we have this thunderbolt option enable???? in our Asrock, or just a bug left there

    Section 3:

Do you also have huge multicore performance difference between win and OS X on the same setup?

    win: https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/15754100

    osx: https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/15765221

Other issue: With my designare Z390 I had thunderbolt, I checked to use my UAD with TB and with FW on the same system. With Pro Tools, same session. With TB I had 90% cpu usage, and with FW I had 60%. Strange. Seemed that thunderbolt connection was sitting on the cpu, just like if I used the UHD 630 internal graphics. There I had the same issue. With UHD630 session runs 90%, with rx580 used 50% of the cpu. This was the reason I chose this motherboard, and not to have thunderbolt instead (and of course the price difference)

    Hi

My drivers are seem to be loaded

    Firewire tab is still empty

I have an extra link speed string, so it double-checks me that the card is recognised

I don't know who made this card, I see only that is has the LSI L-FW643-6-BP chip, what as I know is the same what the real Macs had/or have

I have been using this card since 6-8 years in my older hack builds, always was working

How do you know that this card is single or dual?

I had only problem when I swapped from my Asus prime z370 do a gigabyte designare z390 because of the thunderbolt, the designare was not booting with it (bios update solved this), then I swapped the fw card with my neighbour to a Texas instrument card , that was fine with the designare, and now we swapped back. His card also was not working in this setup in the trx40's. (my first set was an Aurus trx40 wifi with 3960X, then I swapped to this bigger set after two weeks)

Today I have ordered the same card what iGPU has, hoping the bests

Thank you ALL for your help, by the way!!!!

I was thinking that I have some IRQ problems maybe. I'm not pro at editing that. Tried the automatic SSDTTIME, without success.

For this setup Mald0n at olarila made me a proper dsdt, where all the issues are solved, except this, so I think that the IRQ's have to be right

I use my hacks for audio production swapped from i7 to this monster to handle more plugins for me, what it does, so using the UAD sound card (with the own dsp) is a kind of mandatory, and with this board I have no thunderbolt option (BUT we have thunderbolt enable option in the bios LOL!!!)

Your card looks like it should be fine. The one I'm using is here.

I've attached an OpenCore DevProp that may help inject some function for your Firewire card (copy and paste it into your DevProp section; then reboot). You'll need to adjust the address using Hackintool as I shown below (I'm including the instructions as I don't know if you've used Hackintool before).

Based on your IORE file, it looks like you're using the card in slot-3. I'm using in slot-2 (but I'm using water-cooled GPUs that expose slot-2, which would otherwise be obscured by the GPU in slot-1).

I don't recall whether you tried in different slots, but if slot 2 (D0A2/D0A9) is not available, perhaps try in slot-4, repeating the instructions below to re-calculate the address for slot-4. In slot-4, it will probably appear at D2A2 in IORE.

Did you get your Firewire card working?

I've used many types and so far, all have worked natively in bare metal in Z390, X299 and TRX40 builds with no added kexts or DevProp. If you've added anything (such as a special kext) remove them.

If still having problems, upload an IORE file.

Hi, no, still suffering with it.

Now I have an LSI FW643 installed. As I remember, older builds I did not have to do anything special

  16. Hi

I don't know if this is the good thread to ask this, I try to make alive my Firewire card for my uad sound card . Tried many things, irq conflicts, and so on, inserted at Device properties, kext loaded, but still no success. This was a native working card in my previous builds.

Software writes Driver not installed correctly, it means that I did not allowed in in security and Privacy , but there was no option for that
